If you’re a regular reader of Emory Health, you’re used to reading about phenomenal progress and achievements in health education, research, and patient care. You probably already know that Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center provides some of the most innovative and outstanding care available in Georgia and the Southeast. But did you know that we’re one of the top health systems in the nation as well?
Last month, for the first time in the history of the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) Quality Leadership Awards, two hospitals from one health care system were ranked in the top 10—Emory University Hospital at number two and Emory University Hospital Midtown at number six.
UHC is an alliance representing a majority of the nation’s academic medical centers. Its annual rankings rigorously assess these teaching hospitals on multiple dimensions of quality and safety and are considered by many to be the most unbiased national quality measurement system available. To have one hospital ranked in the top 10 by UHC is outstanding for any health system. To have two ranked in the top 10 is unheard of.
This unprecedented success speaks volumes about our physicians, nurses, management team, health care professionals, and support staff. And of course, the ultimate winners are our patients—people like three-year-old Christopher Harry, whose rare metabolic disorder is being managed with the help of Rani Singh, director of the Emory Metabolic Genetics Nutrition Program.
You can read more about Christopher and Dr. Singh in this issue of Emory Health, along with many others who benefit from the cutting-edge care that makes Emory a national leader among its peers. Thanks, as always, for your support in helping us save and improve lives.
