Emory neuroscientist Larry Young and journalist Brian Alexander have some answers to those questions. In their new book, The Chemistry Between Us, they share what scientific research teaches us about behaviors such as physical attraction, infidelity, and mother-infant bonding.

Young, a researcher at Yerkes National Primate Research Center and William P. Timmie Professor of Psychiatry at Emory, has long studied the neuroscience of bonding among voles. In this popular book, he and his co-author expand on that research to show how neurochemicals act on brain circuits and affect complex social behaviors. The work has important implications for psychiatric disorders such as autism and schizophrenia.
