Gupta, Houry Elected to NAM


Sanjay Gupta and Debra Houry were elected by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) to join its 2019 class.

Gupta is associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Hospital, associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory, and chief medical correspondent for CNN. He was chosen for his efforts in helping the public understand the causes, impact, and management of medical and public health challenges, and bridging the gap of health care knowledge by redefining public discourse. Houry is adjunct associate professor in emergency medicine at Emory and director of the CDC’s National Center for Injury Control and Prevention. She was chosen for leading the nation’s largest public health institution focused on the prevention of injuries, including overdose, suicide, and violence, and highlighting the multiple harms associated with the opioid epidemic.
